Treasure Children’s Charity continues to inspire global support for youth-led community development. Recently, our founder, Amon Byarugaba, an undergraduate Political Science student at Makerere University, met with Dr. JSM after her lecture titled “America@250: Opportunity for Civic Renewal in the US.â€
Following the lecture, Dr. JSM engaged in meaningful discussions with students and faculty about civic renewal and youth participation in community service. Among these inspiring conversations, her meeting with Amon stood out — highlighting the power of young leaders driving social change in Uganda.
During their discussion, Amon shared the mission and impact of Treasure Children’s Charity, a Community-Based Organization (CBO) in Nansana Municipality that supports underprivileged children and youth. The organization focuses on education, mentorship, menstrual hygiene awareness, and empowerment through programs such as:
Scholarships and school supplies for vulnerable children
Menstrual hygiene support for girls to promote school attendance
A small community library and digital resource center with Wi-Fi and laptops
Moved by this dedication, Dr. JSM made a personal donation of school supplies and toiletries to support the children served by the charity before returning to the United States.
In her reflection, Dr. JSM stated:
“I was so inspired by Amon’s work starting a Community-Based Organization — the Treasure Children’s Charity. As I was packing my suitcases, I set aside some school supplies and toiletries for the children. I look forward to doing more to support this CBO.â€
She also emphasized the ongoing need for donations such as books, computers, tablets, school supplies, and feminine hygiene products, encouraging others to contribute.
Looking forward, both Dr. JSM and Amon are planning future collaborations — including a possible invitation for Amon to speak at youth empowerment workshops hosted by Dr. JSM in the United States.
This partnership reflects a shared vision: empowering young leaders to build stronger, more equitable communities and create lasting change through compassion, education, and civic engagement.
